Aglianico
Aglianico is a black-skinned variety probably of ancient Greek origin that today is predominantly grown in Campania and Basilicata. Certainly in the top tier of Italy’s autochthonous varieties, Aglianico produces wines of significant fruit density, power and structure. The best wines come from vineyards at pronounced elevation for red varieties, allowing slow flavour and sugar development while preserving balancing acidity and controlling vineyard vigour. The wines are often marked by quite lifted perfume of dark fruits and spice, with assertive tannin and vibrant acidity.
